1. They are found commonly in damp, humid and shaded qualities.
2. The plants are small. They seldom attain great length or height.
3. They are also called as amphibians of the plant kingdom because these plants can live in soil but are dependent on water for sexual reproduction.
4. Vascular tissues i.e., xylem and phloem are absent.
5. The gametophyte of bryophyte consists of multicellular sex organs. The male
sex organ is called antheridium and the female sex organ is flask-shaped called archegonium
