 \mathrm{\red{Characteristics \: of \: Covalent \:Compounds}}

They have generally low melting and boiling point

Compounds having covalent bond generally show low M.P. and B.P. due to the reason that covalent forces are held weakly.Therefore the weak force can be easily broken by supplying heat to the compound.

Covalent compounds are localised

Which means that they are restricted in space to a position between atoms. (Metallic and ionic bonds differ in this nature).

Rate of reaction of such compounds are quite slow

This is due to the reason that covalent compounds take part as molecules and molecular reaction is slower in comparison to the atomic reaction.

Solubility

It is observed that covalent compounds are not soluble in water (Polar solvents) instead they are soluble in organic solvents which are non polar in nature.

Poor conductors

Covalent compounds are poor Conductors of electricity in the fused or dissolved state.
