Basidiomycetes

• They are one of the subclass under the kingdom Fungi.
• commonly known forms are mushrooms, puffballs..
• they can grow in soil, on logs and tree stumps and as parasites on plant bodies.
• their mycelium (body) is branched and septate.
• vegetative reproduction is by fragmentation
• some common members are agaricus (mushroom) ,ustilago (smut), puccinia (rust fungus).
