Xerophytic adaptations are as follows:

  • Extensive root systems which go deep into the soil in search of water.

  • Roots have numerous root hairs to absorb water.

  • Leaves are reduced, small, scale-like.

  • Leaves are modified into spines as in cactus.

  • Leaves are coated with cuticle to check loss of water.
