Pegasse soils is a dark loose peaty acidic soil that is formed by decomposition of plant material and is found in the parts of Guyana.


These have a high percentage of organic matter.


These soils extend over 9% of the cultivated area.


These also have acid sulphate properties in the subsoils and highly acidic when drained.
