Although bacteria and viruses both are very small to be seen without a microscope, there are many differences between Bacteria and Viruses.
Viruses are the smallest and simplest life form; they are 10 to 100 times smaller than bacteria.Bacteria are single-celled organisms that can live either inside or outside other cells. They can survive without a cellular host.[2] Viruses, on the other hand, are only intracellular organisms, meaning that they infiltrate the host cell and live inside the cell. Viruses change the host cell's genetic material from its normal function to producing the virus itself.Antibiotics cannot kill viruses, but can kill most bacteria, with the exception of bacteria that have become resistant to the antibiotic.[3] Misuse and overuse of antibiotics have led to antibiotic resistance. Antibiotics are becoming less effective against potentially harmful bacteria.

@ Characteristics of virus and bacteria are:-
<> Virus => They are extremely small and can be studied only with an electron microscope.
>> All of them are parasites. Outside a living host they behave like non-living organisms. Once they enter the body of any living organism they grow and reproduce very fast.
>> They need a living cell to grow and for nutrition.
>> They cause diseases in both plants and animals like cold measles, polio, AIDS ( Acquired Immune Deficiency Virus) , Swine flu, etc.
<> Bacteria => They are unicellular organisms.
>> They are found everywhere-in air, in water, in hot springs, in solids, inside the body of living organisms such as humans, pigs, etc.
>> Bacteria are classified into four types based on their shape.
* Rod shape => Bacilli
* Spherical => cocci
* Spiral => Spirilla
* Common- shaped => Vibrio
>> They move with the help of flagella which are hair like structures.
>> They can make their own food , obtain food from outside, feed on dead or decaying matter or live in the body of hosts.
>> They need moist atmosphere and moderate temperature for growth.
>> Under favourable conditions bacteria reproduce very fast by a process called binary fission.
>> A number of bacteria cause diseases to the animals, plants and human beings whereas some bacteria are very useful.
