Arteries are the vessels which carry oxygenated blood means it is rich in oxygen in other words percentage of oxygen is high in the heart of a human body.Blood flows with high pressure.
In other words we can define artery that the blood vessels which carry blood away from the heart.
Note-All the arteries carry pure blood except pulmonary artery.Pulmonary artery carries unpure blood.
Characters-
(a)Thickness ----Arteries are muscular and elastic.
(b)Lumen----- The lumen of arteries are narrow.
(c)Valves----Valves are absent in arteries.
(d)Direction of blood flow----- Arteries carry blood from heart to other part of the body.
(e)Colour------ The colour of oxygen is generally reddish.
