Hyderabad, Bengal and Awadh were old Mughal provinces even though powerful and quite independent, the rulers of these states did not break their formalities with the Mughal emperor and princes. They enjoyed considerable independence under the Mughals. The last group included states under the control of Marathas, Sikhs and the Jats.
