Terrariums are miniature gardens, built inside sealable containers like glass jars and bottles. This represents a fully functional micro plant ecosystem.

  • The components of the terrarium mainly include a clear glass container, sterilised potting soil, charcoal, medium-sized rocks/stones and small plants of different colours.
  • The layer of arranging the materials in a clear glass bowl should be like Rocks→Charcoal→Potting Soil→tiny plants.
  • A  Rock layer of one inch will help the soil drainage thus avoiding waterlogging and root rot of plants.
  • 1/2 half-inch thick layer of Charcoal is to filter the water and prevent the growth of fungi. After that, a half-full of the potting mixture is added to plant the saplings.
  • Decorative items like cones, colourful marbles, mosses etc are optional.
  • Terraruims are also called vivariums.
  • Try to keep the terrariums in indirect sunlight and water the plants lightly.
