Answer:

Tiny Himalayan state Sikkim has found its first CoVID patient today to lose its 'No Corona State' status. It was the last Indian state without any CoVID patient. Sikkim started taking very tight pro-active steps even before onset of nationwide lockdown to remain out of the clutch of this pandemic.

As learnt, the 25 years old patient was in Delhi for his coaching for UPSC exam. He used to reside in a paying guest accommodation in Haiderpur area of the capital city. He returned home on the 17th May in a bus with 12 others. Among them, three were from South Sikkim.

On return, the person was quarantined where he had shown symptoms and his serum was tested. Despite having a Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) in Sikkim established on May 21, sample of the patient was sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) in Siliguri where the result came as positive,.

According to Sikkim state health Director, Dr. P. T. Bhutia, the patient has been taken to dedicated CoVID hospital STNM Hospital in the state Capital Gangtok. Hospital sources informed his health status as stable.

"This is indeed a shocking news for all of us here. We are requesting all residents of Sikkim to keep cool and calm. All those who were known to have had any contact with the patient will be tested," said a senior health department official. In addition, the state has also decided to test all Sikkim residents coming back to home.

Sikkim was one of the states to take tightest possible measures to prevent CoVID attack. These included highly restricted entry. Despite having high dependency on tourism, Sikkim decided to keep its doors closed for the tourists till October 2020.
