Democracy means a government which is run by the people, of the people and for the people.
In a democracy, the people have their freedom of speech, thought and expression.
Due to this, there will definitely exist diversity.
For people to enjoy this diversity, they need to be open minded as well as accepting of the uniqueness of the different cultures and their customs and traditions.
The following are the conditions under which democracies accommodate social diversities:
1. Democracies accommodate social diversities when it is well understood that democracy is not just the rule of the majority and that the rule of the majority is not just the rule of a single religious or social community.
2. It does not believe in any type of discrimination based on the basis of race, caste, sex, religion, etc. All the citizens have the right to voice their grievances without any fear or compulsion.
3. A substantial amount of seats are reserved for women and the under-privileged sections so that they may also participate in decision-making.
