Actually, there are both. (PS: I am writing this answer considering Indian Joint families)

CONS:-

No privacy: It is very very difficult to get privacy in there, especially for a couple. In a joint family, a couple’s life is restricted to just their room. Also, if you want to talk in private with your GF/BF, you actually have to move out of the house and do that. Thus, not so easy.

Difficult when you move away from them: Once you are used to this environment, it becomes very tough for you to move out of the home, be it be for work, or studies. But, that time, being alone initially kills you and you just need someone to talk to, because at home, you surely have one person who knows you throughout.

But whatever anyone says, we love our families very much. So much that, “Ghar mein beemar ek padta hai, Khichdi pura parivar khata hai”.
