Explanation:

Global warming is expected to have far-reaching, long-lasting and, in many cases, devastating consequences for planet Earth.

Global warming, the gradual heating of Earth's surface, oceans and atmosphere, is caused by human activity, primarily the burning of fossil fuels that pump carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Despite political controversy about climate change, a major report released Sept. 27, 2013, by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stated that scientists are more certain than ever of the link between human activities and global warming. More than 197 international scientific organizations agree that global warming is real and has been caused by human action.

The consequences of Global Warming is far and large, and some of the major consequences are the increase level of oceanic waters which would cause flooding, change in climatic patterns, increased rate of extinction of species and loss of biodiversity, more pollution, etc.

Explanation:

  • Global Warming is caused due to the increase in the global average temperature of the earth. It is triggered mainly due to the greenhouse gases and the increased carbon emissions because of the increased deforestation and increased burning of fossil fuels.
  • The first impact would be the melting of polar icecaps, which will increase the sea levels and it will cause flooding of the sea coasts.
  • Therefore major cities like San Francisco, New York City, Mumbai, Singapore, and many small islands like the Maldives, the Fiji islands, etc are at high risk of flooding.
  • The second would be the change in climatic patterns. Therefore there would be no or heavy rainfall, which would trigger natural calamities like flood, droughts, cyclones, etc.
  • There would be large scale extinction of species and loss of biodiversity because the animals would not be able to adapt to this changed environment so rapidly.
  • The air quality, the water quality and the soil quality will be worsened, and the soil may not be at all suitable for cultivation of crops mainly due to increased acid rains.
  • There would be increased shortage of food and other necessities like clean water, which can be war like situations.
