the constituents of gastric juices and their functions are as follows:

(i) HCL or hydrochloric acid: it kills germs and harmful bacteria and also aids in activating pepsinogen.

(ii) Pepsin: pepsinogen present in gastric juices activate pepsin, pepsin help in Breaking Down proteins of food.

(iii) Mucous: it is the enzyme secreted by walls of stomach and is a constituent of gastric juices as well, which prevents corrosion of walls of stomach from concentrated hydrochloric acid by forming a protective layer.
