Anyway I think the authors of the constitution of India made a short sighted decision when it was written to deny dual citizenship. Granted it was written at a time when, dual Pakistani / Indian and even dual British / Indian citizens could be considered a security risk. Arguably, during the Nixon administration, dual American / Indian citizenship was a risk to India's security.

The world has changed. While dual Pakistani / Indian citizenship is still a non starter, there is no reason why (other than its constitution) why India should deny its citizens the acquisition of second citizenships in developed countries that are friendly to India.

Besides which, India gives its citizens defacto dual Nepali / Indian citizenship, so this law is hypocritical.

The benefits to India that dual citizens can benefit India by bringing more investment money. For example, consider that an Indian who has surrendered his Indian passport can't even get a SIM card for his mobile phone when he lands in India to start a business. That makes it harder to do business.
