Admiral Hyman Rickover was the head of the
Nuclear Power Branch started by the Research Division of the Bureau of Ships in
1848. He built the support system for the nuclear submarines concept. Rickover
was the mastermind behind the manufacturing of the first nuclear
propelled/powered submarine and engines. Even as he served the Navy, he joined
hand with the Atomic Energy Commission to research on the development of
nuclear reactors.
