What are the coordinates of the point which divides the line joining (-1, 7) and (4, -3) in the ratio 2 : 3 ?

Given

A(-1,7)(x1,y1)

B(4,-3)(x2,y2)

let p(x,y) be point that divides AB in ratio 2:3(m1:m2)

then using ratio formula

p(x)= m1x2+m2x1/m1+m2

=2(4)+3(-1)/ 2+3

=8-3/5

=5/5= 1

Similarly

p(y)= m1y2+m2y1/ m1+m2

=2(-3)+3(7)/2+3

=-6+21/5

=15/5=3
