the conjunctions that are added in a sentence which makes two independent clauses is coordinating conjunction and those in which one clause is dependent on other is subordinate conjunction..
coordinate conjunction:
He is a good student and he is very brilliant at maths.
subordinate conjunction:
I was surprised when I saw her.
