A lot of options available for a polytechnic holder. Since you didn't mention the branch and other relevant detail, let’s discuss it in a general context. There is always two ways in life, same is here too. Depends on what you want, First, further study or second, to get job?
Study-
After polytechnic you can go for further courses related to you field. Then you can go for 3 year Graduation or Engineering courses. That will increase the opportunities for you.
You can also join the 2nd year of B Tech or of B.E. in engineering institutes through lateral entry scheme. For that, you have to attend the lateral entry entrance examination.
Diploma holder can earn A.M.I.E (Associate Member of the Institutions of Engineers) which is a professional certification equivalent to B.E. Degree. This is awarded by Institute of Engineering, India to those who successfully pass all the exams i.e. Section A, project work & section B. In general, it takes 4 years to complete both the section. However, since diploma holders get exemption from certain papers of section A, they can finish this in 3 years.
Job-
Many companies offer job for diploma holders. Keep checking requirement for different vacancies in your field related companies.
Diploma holders who wish to join merchant navy can join 2 years course which is offered by various government and private institutes.
Those who wish to enter into job market, can get job in different companies as Junior Engineer.
