what are the criteria used by Mendeleev in creating his periodic table

on studying the periodic table of newlands
he created his periodic table on the basis of atomic mass and arrange them in order

but their are some elements which are not found so he leaves some gaps between it

so when new elements will discover its will fill the gaps

so on the criteria of atomic mass he made his periodic table which was great benefit on the modern periodic table
