Political parties are a bit like FB. They encourage people to live inside their own echo chamber. Parties can lose touch with the needs of the general public who they are supposed to represent.Parties can become corrupted at the top and also by big money. All political parties require donations to thrive but left unchecked, this can lead very quickly to massive corruption. When that happens, they start can start resembling a crime syndicate rather than a political party. When one political party grabs too much control, it can lead to one-party rule which is antithetical to democracy. This is a particularly big problem in the U.S. where our system makes any more than two major parties difficult to sustain.Political parties have a tendency to squash debate in favor of “group think”. This can have poisonous results. A great example is the Democratic party in 2016. They shut out the progressive wing and told them to get in line…and lost the general election.Parties can be taken over by radical fringe groups. That is what has happened to the Republican party.
