Mumps cannot be treated with antibiotics because it is a virus. Treatments are designed to reducesymptoms, prevent complications andstop the spread of the disease. They include: Medicines to reduce pain (acetaminophen) and swelling (ibuprofen).

• Vaccination is the best way to prevent mumps.

• This vaccine is included in the combination:-

1.measles-mumps-rubella (MMR)

2.measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV) vaccines.

• Two doses of mumps vaccine are 88% (range 31% to 95%) effective at preventing the disease; one dose is 78% (range 49% to 91%) effective
