The demerits of democracy may include the following:

Making the wrong choice at elections and the elected leader is only interested in vote bank politics (corruption)

The people at times do not appreciate the power of their vote and do not therefore vote at all

Representatives may not be elected on merit. In a system of voting the majority rules and there's no distinction between the votes of the literate and the illiterate.

It takes long to take decisions and implement them
