they should be productive.. resistant to diseases and pests ..and they should be gentle as anyone don't wants to get stung...the worker bees should be harding

The desirable characteristics of bee for honey production are :
A) the bees should breed well.
B) the bees should remain in their beehive for longer period of time.
C) the bees should sting less and collect quality nectar.

Thus, cross breeding are done for obtaining the desirable quality of bees.
The indigenous breed is apis indicus
The exotic breeds include apis dorsata(rock bee), apis melifere, apis adamsoni(South African bee), etc.
