Distance travelled is a scalar quantity while displacement is a vector quantity. ... But if the body changes its direction while moving, then the displacement is smaller than the distancetravelled.

2. distance is the total path covered by the body while displacement is the shortest distance between the initial and final position.

3.distance is always positive while displacement can be positive , negative or zero.

4. distance can be calculated on the curve path also but displacement is always calculated on the straight path
