Answer:

Law of Reciprocal proportion:This law was put forward by Richer in 1792. It states that:

When two different elements combine with the same quantity of a third element the proportions in which they do so will be the same as, or some simple multiple they combine with each other.

Example: C and H, combine seperately with O to form CO2 and H2O, in which in CO2, C:O=12:32 or 6:16 where as in H2O, H:O=2:16. In both these compounds 16 part of oxygen combine with 6and2parts of C and H i . e . , ratio is 6:2. If carbon and hydrogen combine to form CH4 (methane), then in it, ratio of C and H is 12:4or6:2.

Law of multiple proportion : When two elements combine to form two or more compounds, different weights of a particular element which combines with definite amount of to other element , bear a simple ratio to one another. This law was postulated by John Dalton in 1803.

Example: five oxide are formed by the combination of nitrogen and oxygen:

( draw the table given below in picture)

then write from here:

It is clear that different weight of oxygen which combine with definite amount of nitrogen (28 parts) is in the form of simple ratio 1,2,3,4,5 which verify the law of multiple proportion.
