Nutritionally the same, the ones grown at home taste a lot better because they are picked at peak ripeness. Store tomatoes are a great example. They are picked green and shipped in ethylene gas to make them look red. They are far from optimal. Corn is another, it is ripe when picked and within hours the flavor starts dissipating away. People are so used to store bought, they think that it tastes better.
A great compromise, in season, is to go to local farm markets. There are more and more of them each year. I grow certain things and buy the rest at a farm market. I only have so much room and some things are too complicated to grow due to how much I eat them. I only need 5 pounds of pickling cucumbers a year to pickle. I only eat about 2 or 3 eggplant. Not worth the effort to grow and I use the extra space for tomatoes, green beans and herbs.
