potential difference=work done by the electric force on unit positive charge to move it through a distance l(l is the distance between the two points)is called potential difference.it is denoted by a symbol 'V'.V=W/Q=FL/Q
EMF=work done by the chemicalforce on unit negative charge to move ot from positive terminal to negative terminal.it is denoted by symbol epslon .

potential difference is the work done to  bring an unit+ve charge from one point to another ie from from higher potential to lower potential. emf is the electromotive force .its the chemical force supplied by the cell to move an electron from cathode to anode ie from -ve terminal to +vve terminal of acell
