what are the differences between people who grow food for themselves and people who grow things to sell?

When people  grow food for themselves, it's known as self consumption.
They are usually poor people who does not own big farms and have large scale productions. Most of the work done in their agricultural fields is by their own family members and friends.

Only people who have big farms and enough money to produce surplus of food can sell things out.They hire laborers and will have large scale production.

(Note : There are exceptions in both cases.)
