Xylem tissue:

  • It is composed of vessels, tracheids, xylem  parenchyma and xylem fibres.
  • It conducts water and mineral from roots to leaves.
  • Xylem parenchyma are the living cells in xylem, remaining all are dead.
  • They move only in uni-directional (i.e) only in upward direction.

Phloem tissue:

  • It is composed of sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem parenchyma and phloem fibres.
  • It trans locates food from leaves to different parts of the plant.
  • Sieve tubes, companion cell and phloem parenchyma are the living cells in phloem tissue.
  • They move bi-directional (i.e) both upward and downward direction.
