Speed :

(i) Speed is defined as the distance travelled by the body per unit time

(ii) Speed = timetaken/distancetravelled

(iii) Speed is always positive

Velocity :

(i) Velocity of a moving body is defined as is rate of change of its position with time in a particular direction

(ii) Velocity = timetaken/displacement

(iii) Velocity is a vector quantity

(iv) Velocity can be negative

Answer:

speed being a scalar quantity is rate at which an object covers distance the average is the distance ( a scalar quantity) per time ratio... on the other hand velocity is a vector quantity . it is direction aware velocity is the rate at which the position changes .
