Causes for the revolt of 1857:

* The annexation policy of British was one of the major causes for the revolt

* Lord Dalhousie's 'doctrine of lapse' had created fear and uneasiness throughout India.
* The annexation of Hindu states like satara, Nagpur and Jhansi were resented by the Hindus.

* Besides, the Muslims were in general, dissatisfied with the British. They felt that they lost their political power.

These are some of the many reasons for the causes of the great revolt of 1857.
