What are the different kinds of maps?

Answer:-

Maps are usually classified into different kinds based on the purposes for which they are used:-

1. Topographic Maps:- A topographic map deals with the literal meaning of geography.

Topographic maps show much greater details about small areas. These maps are prepared based on a detailed survey of the areas concerned. The Survey of India has published topographic maps covering rivers, settlements, roads, railway lines etc.

2. Cadastral Maps:- Cadastral maps are village and town maps which show individual fields and house sites.

3. General Purpose Maps:- General purpose maps contain information about both physical and cultural features.

4. Thematic Maps:- Maps which show selected features only are called thematic maps.

5. Physical Maps:- Physical maps usually contain information about the relief features.
