Explanation:

QUESTION:

How is the shape of a cell related to its function?

SOLUTION:

A number of shapes occurs in cells like oval, thread-like, spherical, spindle, elongated, etc.

It depends upon the function it performs and other factors:

  • RBCs are circular and biconcave. It helps it to pass through narrow capillaries and transport oxygen.
  • Muscle cells are elongated for contraction.
  • Sperms have tail for motility while eggs are spherical to accommodate maximum nutrients.
  • Nerve cells are very long for the conduction of impulses to distant places from different body parts to brain and vice-versa.

Cells may be oval , round , plate like , tabular , cylindrical, branched and so on.

The shape of cell is related to its function.

According to the function of cell it has different shapes . Like Amoeba has to form pseudopdia so it has not definite shape. So that it can form pseudopodia
