Different methods of an election are-:

  • Firstly elections are the process by which the representatives are selected who later govern or hold a powerful value in the legislative and political system of a nation.
  • Direct Elections-: It is the method of election wherein the voters directly cast their votes for their preferable representative and then whosoever gets the majority of votes wins the elections.
  • Indirect Elections- Here voters indirectly select the representative as they elect the ones who will then hold the power to select the candidates and mutually decide the results.
  • Electoral polls- The EVMS that is the Electoral Voting Machines is the method of election wherein the voters cast their vote by selecting an option candidate of choice via the electoral and this is the current method of election prevailing in the nation of India.
  • Box Election- This was the traditional method wherein the voters had to cast their votes via writing the names of preferable candidates on the papers that were already provided with names and symbols of parties and they had to select and drop one paper in the box and then the papers or chits were counted and results were announced.
  • First past the post - It is the method wherein the Election Commission organises elections for each constituency and the one who secures the highest amount of votes wins the election.
  • System of Proportion Representation- It is the method of election for the legislative system wherein the marginalised communities get reservation and benefits as generally they are less in number so do not get enough representation.
  • There are also Rajya and Lob Sabha elections held in India along with the election for selecting the State Assembly.
