Parenting style refers to the strategies adopted by parents for the upbringing of their children. There are three types of parenting styles as given below.
Authoritative Parenting Style
In this case, parents have clear standards for their children. While the parents set limits, they also give the children an opportunity to explore and learn. Parents also explain why they punish the child when a punishment is given and give positive encouragement at the right time. This style is also called democratic parenting style.
Authoritarian Parenting Style
Parents take the upper hand and keep issuing commands to their children. They expect the children to obey all that they have been told to do. They do not give children the opportunity to explore on their own. As a result, these children have low self-esteem.
Permissive Parenting Style
Here, parents do not involve themselves in what their children do. They are allowed to do anything they want without any form of parental guidance. As a result, the children are not capable of distinguishing the right from the wrong.
The best parenting style is the authoritative parenting style as it helps children grow up to be responsible with good self-respect and self-esteem.
