When we look at a leaf, we can tell it's green because light reflects off of it and reaches our eyes.

  • The human eye can see a portion of this radiation at a certain frequency (about 390-700 nm). Light is responsible for all we perceive in the world.
  • Light is a type of energy that, like all other energies, comes from somewhere. These are referred to as light sources in the field of physics.

Although there are many different types of light, they may all be classified into one of two groups:

  • Sources that are natural.
  • Sources man-made.

Sources that are natural

  • Light-Emitting Things in the Natural World: The cosmos is awash in light-emitting objects. The earth receives some light from these sources. Light can be emitted by the following natural phenomena:
  • The Earth's primary light source is the Sun. Nuclear fusion creates immense energy in the sun's core, which is a gigantic ball of fire. Heat and light are emitted from this energy. The sun's light is one of the most important components of life on Earth's long-term viability.
  • Every other star emits light as well, but due to the vast distance between them, only a small portion of it reaches Earth.
  • The moon also gives light, although it is unable to do it on its own. The moon's light comes from the sun, which it reflects.

Sources man-made

  • Light may also be created intentionally, in addition to natural sources. The many artificially created light sources may be classified into three groups:
  • Sources of incandescent light include incandescent lamps, incandescent
  • Certain items release light when heated to a high degree. The process results in the production of both infrared and visible light.
  • Candle or incandescent lamp are two examples.
  • Sources of illumination:
  • Charges in a luminous material can be accelerated to create light. Bypassing current through the material is a popular method of doing so.
  • Fluorescent tube light and an electric bulb are two examples.
  • Sources of Gas Emission:
  • It's also possible to make light by passing electricity through specific gases at extremely low pressures.
  • Neon light and Sodium lamp are two examples of these types of lamps.
