what are the different types of cells that phloem tissue consists? define each of them with one function.

ANSWER :

Phloem tissue consists of four types of cells :-

1. Sieve Tubes : These are the living cells of parenchyma that is in the function of continuously transporting the food from the leaves to different parts of the plant. The sieve tubes are stacked upon each other and between them is the sieve plate which has pores in it. Also, sieve tubes have no nucleus.

2. Companion Cells : These are the living cells found next to the sieve tubes. Unlike sieve tubes, companion cells have nucleus and their function is to regulate the flow of food in the sieve tubes.

3. Phloem Parenchyma : Phloem parenchyma are also living cells and their function is storing of food and nutrients.

4. Phloem Fibres : These are the dead cells in phloem which provide mechanical support to the phloem tissue.
