The enzymes are classified under 6 classes as follows:-

♀️Oxidoreductases:-

catalyse oxidation-reduction.

They are also termed as dehydrogenases.

Examples:

•NAD oxidoreductase

• Cytochrome oxidase.

♀️Transferases:-

Helps in transfer of Chemical group between a pair of substance.

Examples:

•Hexokinases

•Transaminases

♀️Hydrolases:-

Catalyze hydrolysis of ester, ether, peptide, glycosidic, C-C bonds.

Examples:

• Cholinesterase

• Alkaline phosphatase

♀️Lyases:-

Catalyze non-hydrolytic cleavage.

Examples:

•Aldolase

•Fumarase

♀️Isomerases:-

Catalyze interconversions of geometric, optical and positional isomers.

Examples:

• Triose-phospho-isomerase

• Phispho-hexose isomerase

♀️ Ligases:-

Helps in joining the two molecules.

Examples:

• Acetyl CoA carboxylase

• Succinate thiokinase

Ques. → What are the different types of Enzymes ?

Ans. ♀️Enzymes are basically those substances that speed up or increase the rate of a process . In a way , they're used as a fuel to speed up process .

=> We have 6 basic types of Enzymes :

1.❄Hydrolases - These kind of Enzymes are basically for increasing the speed of "Hydrolysis reaction" . Example of such enzyme is Lipase which is a digestive enzyme.

➖▪Hydrolysis reaction is a reaction between a molecule and water ( H2O) . This results in the splitting of the bond between the molecules resulting in 2 products .

2.❄ Oxidoreductoses - As the name itself hints , these enzymes are used to speed up Redox Reactions ( reactions in which oxidation & reduction occur simultaneously ).

Example of such enzyme is - Lactate dehydrogenase

3.❄ Transferases - Such enzymes are used in case of functional groups . ( Alkyl , Amino or any other ) . An example of Transferases enzyme is Alanine deaminase.

4.❄Lyases - They are used in two cases . First , in case of addition of molecule and second , to create a double bond in the molecule. Isocitrate Lyase is an example of this kinda enzyme .

5.❄Ligases - Its use is found when there's a need to join two molecules . This is achieved by using the energy currency ATP . An example is DNA ligase.

6.❄Isomerases - As the name hints , these are used for isomerisation reactions .Isomers are compound with the same molecular formula but a different structural formula . So In those reactions , the product is the same but just rearranged itself . An example of Isomerases enzyme is Glucose Phophate isomerase.

Thanks!
