In subsistence farming, farmer has very small land and few livestock. All the crops grown and livestock raised are used to feed and maintain farmer's own family.

It is divided into:

i) Intensive Farming
ii) Primitive Farming i.e. Shifting cultivation and Nomadic Herding.
