What are the different types of mining?

there are 2 types of mining
1. surface mining is included strip mining and mountaintop removal mining in which soil and rock overlying the mineral deposit are removed. 
2. sub-surface mining is much more common and produces 85% of minerals in the U.S and 98% of metallic ores.
