There are seven types of soils :
- Alluvial soil
- Black soil
- Red soil
- Laterite soil
- Desert soil
- Mountain soil
- Saline sandy soil
Clarification :
1. Alluvial soil :
- It is the fertile soil.
- New name of alluvial soil : Khadar
- Old name : Bangar
2. Black soil :
- Black soil is found in Deccan Plateau.
- This soil is black in colour.
- Also called as regur soil or cotton soil.
- It is used for growing Sugarcane, Groundnuts and cotton plants.
3. Red soil :
- It is generally red in colour but parent rock contains large amount of Iron oxide (Fe₂O₃)
- This soil is quite fertile and can be used for cultivation.
4. Laterite soil :
- It is formed by the process of “Leaching”
- This soil is generally infertile.
5. Desert soil :
- This soil is sandy and porous.
- It is rich in soluble salts.
6. Mountain soil :
- It is a thin type of soil.
- This soil is found in hilly areas.
- This soil is found in regions of Jammu and kashmir and Uttarakhand.
7. Saline sandy soil :
- This soil is found in seas and oceans.
