There are seven types of soils :

  1. Alluvial soil
  2. Black soil
  3. Red soil
  4. Laterite soil
  5. Desert soil
  6. Mountain soil
  7. Saline sandy soil

Clarification :

1. Alluvial soil :

  • It is the fertile soil.
  • New name of alluvial soil : Khadar
  • Old name : Bangar

2. Black soil :

  • Black soil is found in Deccan Plateau.
  • This soil is black in colour.
  • Also called as regur soil or cotton soil.
  • It is used for growing Sugarcane, Groundnuts and cotton plants.

3. Red soil :

  • It is generally red in colour but parent rock contains large amount of Iron oxide (Fe₂O₃)
  • This soil is quite fertile and can be used for cultivation.

4. Laterite soil :

  • It is formed by the process of “Leaching
  • This soil is generally infertile.

5. Desert soil :

  • This soil is sandy and porous.
  • It is rich in soluble salts.

6. Mountain soil :

  • It is a thin type of soil.
  • This soil is found in hilly areas.
  • This soil is found in regions of Jammu and kashmir and Uttarakhand.

7. Saline sandy soil :

  • This soil is found in seas and oceans.
