Mainly three types of soil erosion are seen in India:
a) Gully erosion: Formation of deep channels or
gullies by cutting water through clayey soils resulting in
the formation of ‘Badlands’ is called gully erosion.
b) Sheet erosion: When water flows as a sheet over
large areas down a slope, it results in the washing away
of the top layer of soil. This is called sheet erosion.
c) Wind erosion: The blowing away of loose and dry
soil from flat and sloping lands due to strong winds is
called wind erosion.
