In the school I work at, teachers and clerks use computers to store, retrieve, display and print student records. For example, when a student gets a grade in an assignment it’s entered into a computer, the computer then calculates the aggregate grade for that course. If the student or parent then inquires what the grade is, it can be calculated, displayed and printed by a computer.
Other info that’s stored in the computer include: student medical conditions; special ed instructions; whether they go home by bus, walk, or ride; their guardian’s email and phone number, and more. The advantage of this over paper record keeping is that if any of this info must be updated, the up-to-date info is immediately promulgated by the computers to all who may have interest in it.
Computers are also used to send inter-office memos via email. Those are essential at my school since intercom communications are disturbing and ungainly, and my classroom phone’s ringer is disabled so as not to disturb the class.
