The first step in the oxidation in all organisms is the breaking down of 6 atom

glucose molecule to 3 atom molecule pyruvate in the cytoplasm

Aerobic method : Glucose is broken down in presence of oxygen in the mitochondria of the cell to give energy in the form of ATP and carbon dioxide

Anaerobic method : Glucose is broken down in absence of oxygen also known as fermentation  it occurs in yeast and gives the bi products ethanol, carbon dioxide and energy

Absence of oxygen: takes place in the muscles of organisms (humans )

when there is no enough oxygen the by products are lactic acid and energy

production of excess lactic acid in muscles can cause cramps
