In the absence of oxygen glucose is breakdown into pyruvate which take place in cytoplasm

The anaerobic breakdown in bacteria is called fermentation during fermentation pyruvate is broken down to ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide

When there is lack of oxygen in our muscle cell pyruvate is broken down to lactic acid
