Utilisation of glucose for the production of energy depends upon the availability of oxygen. In the presence of oxygen (aerobic respiration), glucose is broken down aerobically in mitochondria , where as in mitochondria,where as in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic respiration), glucose is broken down aerobically in the cytoplasm to produce comparatively lesser amount of energy
