There are 3 ways in which glucose is oxidised:
1.Aerobic respiration:In this, the organism respires in 02 and uses it to conduct a redox reaction on food and oxidise it.Eg.Human cells respire anaerobically to get energy.
2.Anaerobic respiration:In this, the organism respires in an o2 less atmosphere and instead takes in nitrate, etc. to conduct the redox reaction. As they oxidise less electrons than 02,they sometimes leave a by-product like alcohol.Eg.yeast cells respire anaerobically and produce CO2,alcohol and energy.
3.Lack of O2:In this, the organism uses much less O2 than other cells and produce energy and a by-product.For eg.Muscle cells respire in lack of 02 during running and produce energy and lactic acid.
