Disadvantages of nuclear power plants.

l. Danger of nuclear radiation.
2. Problem of disposing the radioactive waste materials.
3. It has to be operated at full load throughout for a good efficiency. So part load operation becomes inefficient.
4. Capital cost of small size plants is very high.

So,as everything has pros and cons....Nuclear power plant has too..
Cons/disadvantages of nuclear power plant are -
1)  Radioactive minerals are unevenly distributed around the world and are scarce.
2)  Supply of high quality uranium, one of the raw material, will last only for few decades as it is very limited.
3)  Nuclear waste from nuclear power plant creates thermal(heat) pollution which may damage the environment.
4)  A large amount of nuclear waste is also created and disposal of this waste is a major problem.
5)  The danger of accidental discharge of radio activity can be very hazardous.
6)  Starting a nuclear plant requires huge capital investment and advanced technology. So , initial cost is high.
7)  Nuclear plants are opposed on moral grounds, by many groups, because of their close linkage with development of nuclear weapons. This is very dangerous.

If there is an accident, large amounts of radioactive material could be released into the environment. In addition, If not stored safely, nuclear waste remains radioactive and is hazardous to health for thousands of years.
