#Free Range System:
- Free range denotes a method of farming husbandry where the animals, for at least part of the day, can roam freely outdoors, rather than being confined in an enclosure for 24 hours each day.
- On many farms, the outdoors ranging area is fenced, thereby technically making this an enclosure, however, free range systems usually offer the opportunity for the extensive locomotion and sunlight that is otherwise prevented by indoor housing systems.
- Free range may apply to meat, eggs or dairy farming.
#Advantages Free Range System:
- Chicken Wellbeing. Perhaps the most obvious advantage of free ranging your flock is the increase in happy chicken behaviors.
- Marketing.
- Pecking Order Escape.
- Lower Food Costs.
- Safety.
- No Guarantees With Nutrition.
- Free Range Chickens Can Be Messy.
#Disadvantages Free Range System:
- Predators — Coops, pastures, and chicken tractors give your flock some protection from predators (not least because they keep the chickens under your watchful eye.)
- Garden damage — Don’t let anyone tell you that chickens and gardens mix, because they don’t.
- Coming home to roost — The more your chickens roam, the less likely they are to come home to the coop at night.
- Chicken poop — Your chickens will probably like to hang out where you are, which means there will be blobs of chicken poop on your front porch, your walkway, and everywhere else.
